Get Discovered!

5 top tips to ensure your technologies available for licence are reaching the widest possible audience, from PraxisUnico member Lucy Mullins of TekCapital plc.

We often get asked by scientists and inventors how they can ensure their technologies available for licence get picked up by our Innovation Discovery Network, and appear on the curated technology lists we put together for our clients who are looking to acquire novel and innovative technologies.

Here are 5 simple rules to ensure your technologies available for licence get put in front of potential buyers…

·      List all of your technologies available for licence on a publicly available webpage – don’t worry if you don’t have the resource to provide lots of details on the technology, just ensure you provide some keywords on what the technology is.  Do not hide your technologies away on internal systems that search engines cannot find

·      Use your Institution’s domain to host the webpage with the technologies listed.  Academic and government domains work best for our search engine, for example .edu, .ac.uk, .gov.uk and .org

·      If you do create a separate website for the technology or it is part of a spin-off company, ensure you create a clickable hyperlink from your Institution’s website to the independent website

·      Use the phrase “technology available for licence” or “available for licence” at least once on every webpage where you are listing your technologies and include a short executive summary that includes specific and relevant keywords

·      If you have limited resources then make sure you have a robust, rapid and effective process to objectively determine the marketability of your IP. Which technologies are worth allocating resource to for commercialisation?  What is the potential market?  Tekcapital’s Invention Evaluator reports can help with this process.
